CURRENT PROJECTS
AGGREGATION
Produce aggregation is an important concept and function in a local food system. Aggregation refers to bringing produce together from multiple sources to create a larger and more consistent supply to meet consumer demand.
GLEANING
Some of the foods we receive [from gleaning] are things that would otherwise be too expensive to buy… One of the great benefits of working with farmers markets is getting fresh fruits and veggies that are healthy.
CSA
The program’s goals were to bring together people from the suburbs and the city of Hartford to grow reasonably priced fresh produce, using sustainable agriculture practices and to increase the awareness and appreciation of locally grown food.
VACANT LOT ACTIVATION
Vacant lots are neglected parcels of land, with no permanent structures (like buildings or houses). Vacant lots create a sense of abandonment, which leads to crime, disinvestment, and lowers the surrounding property values.
NUTRITION EDUCATION
Nutrition education can be defined as any set of learning experiences designed to facilitate the voluntary adoption of eating and other nutrition-related behaviors conducive to health and well-being.
FARM TO SCHOOL
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
HARTFORD MOBILE MARKET
The Hartford Mobile Market aims to address the lack of access to affordable and high-quality produce in many Hartford neighborhoods. It is a year-round mobile produce market for targeted low-income neighborhoods, bringing fresh fruits and vegetables into areas with limited healthy food access.
GROW HARTFORD YOUTH
Grow Hartford is a youth program that advocates against social injustices such as food injustice, racism, and adultism. Our mission is to not only bring awareness to these issues but to also motivate citizens to bring change.
NORTH END FARMERS MARKET
North End Farmers Market is a grass-root victory for North End residents who long desired a farmers market in their own community. Hartford Food System supported this effort through a feasibility study published in 2008
